ARTHUR J. POWERS

Arthur L. Powers, age 77, of Cleveland, passed away, Friday, February 22, 2008 at Fairview General Hospital, Cleveland, following a long illness.

Born in Hammond, Kentucky, he was a resident of Cleveland for the past two months moving from North Ridgeville, where he lived for 35 years. He previously lived in Avon, Mansfield and Wise, Virginia.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart.Mr. Powers work in assembly at the Ford Engine Plant 1 in Brookpark for 35 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a former member of Faith Baptist Temple and North Ridgeville Church of God. He was a member of UAW Local 120. Arthur enjoyed bowling, mowing the lawn, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, being with his family, the neighborhood kids and pets and especially his own dog “Rocky”.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene (nee Hubbard); sons, Dan (Judy) of Elyria, Robert (Qualaine) of Strongsville, Jerry of Mansfield, Mark (Carmen Rivera) of Berea; daughters, Diana Powers (Dorothy Ciesla) of West Park; Mary (Michael) Thompson of Elyria; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several more adopted grandchildren; sisters, Shelby Jean (Jeff) Nixon of Coeburn, Virginia, Janice Collins of Waynesboror, Virginia; brothers, Joe (Marge) of Piedmont, South Dakota, Hampton (Delphie) of Coeburn, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Wade and Nellie Powers; brothers, Matthew James and Rev. Harlis Powers and grandson, Daniel Powers.

Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9Pm at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00AM in the funeral home. Rev. John Helms will officiate.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.

BETTY J. GANSOR

Betty J. Gansor (nee Bumgardner), age 66, of North Ridgeville, died Friday February 22, 2008 at EMH Regional Medical Center, following a long illness.

She was born in Cleveland and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1963 moving from Olmsted Twp.

She was a 1959 graduate of South High in Cleveland where she ran track and played softball.Mrs. Gansor was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, N. Ridgeville and was past president of the N. Ridgeville Democratic Women’s Club. She was also the secretary of the Democratic Central Committee of N. Ridgeville and a member of Lorain County Democratic Central Committee where she was awarded for her participation in local state and federal elections. Betty was an avid bowler with the women’s league at N. Ridgeville Brunswick Lanes and loved flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Carl; son, John (Marla) of Avon; twin daughters, Denise (Mark) Pais, Donna Demyan all of N. Ridgeville; granddaughter, Shirley Gansor of Avon; brothers, Ed Bumgardner of Waukegan, Illinois, Richard and Raymond Bumgardner both of Cambridge; sister, Ruth (Jim) Chicwik of Caldwell and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Thurman and Susie Bumgardner (nee Hudak).

Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, N. Ridgeville where a prayer service will be on Wednesday at 9:30AM followed by a 10:00AM mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Road, N. Ridgeville. Rev. Stephen Kaminski, pastor, will be the celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

MARY JANE KINCAID

Mary Jane Kincaid (nee Robinson), age 61, of Elyria, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008, at her home following a short illness.

Born in Page, West Virginia, she spent most of her life in Elyria.Mrs. Kincaid was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy, Elyria.She enjoyed crocheting, oil and watercolor painting, baking and watching her grandson.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Phillip “Ashley” Kincaid; mother, Frances Robinson of Elyria; son, Christopher (Jodie) Kincaid of Elyria; grandson, Austin at home; and sister, Judy (Behzad) Jourabchian of Elyria.

She was preceded in death by her father Monroe Robinson and sister Ruby Lee Robinson.

RICHARD W. STAFFELD

Richard W. Staffeld, age 63, of North Ridgeville, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at St. John West Shore Hospital, Westlake, following a short illness.

Born in South Euclid, he was a resident of North Ridgeville for 33 years moving from Westlake.Mr. Staffeld served in the US Navy from 1964-1968. He worked as a Stationary Engineer for GM Delphi Plant in Sandusky, for 25 years, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, and was a car enthusiast.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Teresa (nee Ianni); sons, Ross (Susan)Staffeld of North Olmsted, Reid (Sandra) Staffeld of Eaton Twp. and sister, Donna (Asa) Jewell of Kerrville, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond; father, Wilson Staffeld and mother Helen Allen.

ROBERT L. PRICE

Robert L. Price, age 79, of Elyria, passed away Friday, February 15, 2998, at the Five Star Adult Home, Avon Lake, following a long illness.

Born in Lorain, he grew up in Avon Lake where he graduated High School in 1946. He was a resident of Elyria for the past 18 years moving from North Ridgeville, where he lived for most of his life.

He served in the US Army from 1946-1950. Mr. Price worked as a pipefitter for 40 years retiring in 1990. He was a member of Pipefitters Union Local 120 and enjoyed boating, fishing and his pet dog “Smooch”.

Survivors include his son, Gregory Price of Elyria; daughter, Robin Newhart of Parkersburg, West Virginia; grandchildren, Andy and Hannah Newhart also of Parkersburg, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Blanche Price; sister, Phyllis McCowan; brothers, George and M.C. Price.

Friends may call Monday from 5-7PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Services will be held 1 PM Tuesday in the funeral home. JAMES E. VALENTA

James E. Valenta, age 50, of Avon, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 3, 2008.He was born in Cleveland, grew up in Brookpark and had been a resident of Avon for the past six years moving from West Park. He was a graduate of Padua High School.

Mr. Valenta worked as a bailiff for the Rocky River Courts for over 25 years. He had a passion for vintage cars, was an avid cyclist and enjoyed hiking in the Metro parks.

Survivors include his mother, Agnes Valenta of North Ridgeville; father, Frank Valenta of Pittsburgh, PA.; brothers, Frank (Marie) Valenta of Brunswick, John (Janice) Valenta of Blandenbora, N.C.; sisters, Mary Bertrand of Sacramento, CA., Kathy (Mike) Ritzenthaler of Bay Village, Annie Valenta of Brunswick, Jackie Mazzola of Middleburg Hts.

He was the loving uncle of Kevin and David Valenta, Jimmy John Bertrand, Amanda, Lauren, Rachel and Brian Ritzenthaler, Jessica, Michael and Kaitlyn Mazzola; and great uncle of David, Mallorie and Adam Valenta.

A funeral mass will be held 10:00AM on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, 5500 Lear Nagle Road, North Ridgeville. Rev. Dr. Richard Gonser, pastor, will be the celebrant.
