EILEEN JUNE BASHAK

Eileen June Bashak (nee Hollup), age 81, of North Ridgeville, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2008, at Center Ridge Health Campus, N. Ridgeville, of Pancreatic Cancer.

Born in Lorain she was a resident of N. Ridgeville since 1959 moving from Elyria.She was a graduate of Elyria High School class of 1944.

Mrs. Bashak was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, N. Ridgeville and enjoyed reading, watching TV and caring for her dogs and birds.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Mitchell of N. Ridgeville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas P. Bashak in 1993; parents, Carl and Anna (nee Miller) Hollup and sisters, Lillian Chapin and Dorothy Hollup.

A graveside service will be held on Monday at11:00AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 7284 Lake Ave, Elyria.

KATHY MARIE WHITTEN

Kathy Marie Whitten, age 51, of North Ridgeville, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008, at University Hospital, Cleveland, following a short illness.
Born in Elyria, she grew up in North Ridgeville where she lived for the past 13 years moving from Baltimore, Maryland where she resided for 15 years.

Kathy worked for the City of North Ridgeville in the Service Department for the past 13 years. She loved the ocean, traveling, playing games of chance and tormenting her nephews.

Survivors include her life partner of 9 years, Margie Vacca and Margie’s daughter, Nina both of North Ridgeville; parents, Joseph and Lucille Whitten of North Ridgeville; brother, Ken Whitten of Elyria; nephews, Eric (Meagan) Whitten of Wellington, Ken Jr. (Jen) Whitten of Elyria; 3 great-nephews; 3 great-nieces and grandmother, Mary Lou Woody of Crossville, TN.

Friends may call Sunday from 2PM until the time of services at 5:00PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Rev. John Fairweather, Pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ, North Ridgeville, will officiate.

DONALD RALPH GILDER

Donald Ralph Gilder, age 73, of Duluth, GA, died on December 1, 2007 at the Gwinnet Medical Center in Duluth, GA following a short illness.

Mr. Gilder was a long time resident of N. Ridgeville, moving to Farmington Hills, MI in 1969, then to Middletown, Ohio in 1972. He had resided in Duluth GA since 1980. He retired in 1992 as a Regional Service Engineer for General Motors where he had worked for 29 years. He then continued to operate Gilder Consulting for several years. He was a former member of the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ, N. Ridgeville.

Mr. Gilder enjoyed restoring antique cars and trucks and was active at the YMCA in Norcross, GA.

He is survived by his daughters, Beth Goldsmith, of Norcross, GA and Joy Garcia, of San Juan, Puerto Rico; sons, Kent Gilder, of Duluth, GA, Clark Gilder, of Alpharetta, GA; eleven grandchildren; brothers, Robert Gilder, of N Ridgeville and Alan Gilder, of Elyria and sister, Lynne Dreger, of N. Ridgeville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (nee Benner) Gilder and son, Chad Gilder.


The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Friday, January 25, 2008 at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Rd, N. Ridgeville. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ, 36363 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville. Rev. John Fairweather, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgeville Cemetery.

ARTHUR F. GRONDIN

Arthur F. Grondin, 80, of Grafton died Wednesday at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph Residential Center in Lorain following a brief illness.

He was born September 14, 1927 in Lorain and was a Grafton area resident for 45 years. Mr. Grondin worked as a teacher for the Elyria City Schools for many years, spending most of his career as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Franklin Junior High School. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton where he served as a teacher for the Parish School of Religion over 20 years, was a member of the Holy Name Society, and was active in other church functions. He was a WW II Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8369.

Survivors include this wife of 45 years, Wanita (nee: Seabold), daughters; Kathy Grondin of Vermilion, Karen Grondin of Phoenix,AZ., and Patty Grondin of Columbus; one step grandson; sisters; Doris Mahilo of North Ridgeville, and Della Barczyk of Lorain, brother; Milton Grondin of Grants Pass, OR. He was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Mrosek, and brothers, Robert, Charles and William Grondin.

Friends may call Friday 4-7PM at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, at Chestnut Ridge Rd. at State Rt. 57, Elyria (322-4626).

Services will be Saturday at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church 708 Erie St. Grafton. The Rev. John Patrick Seabold, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Private burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Grafton.
