EMMA D. FOX

Emma D. Fox (nee: DeLuca), 93, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a short illness.

She was born November 15, 1915 to the late Luigi and Anna Marie (nee: Montesana) DeLuca and lived most of her life in Lorain, Ohio. She was a graduate of Lorain High School. Mrs. Fox was a seamstress at Louis Cohn for 25 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Peter Church in Lorain and a member of St. Peter Senior Group. Most mornings, family and friends would gather in her kitchen for coffee, refreshments and conversation. Mrs. Fox is known by many for the letters written to “Letters to the Editor” at the Morning Journal. “Emma Fox Day” was celebrated at the Palace Theater on February 10, 2002 for her contributions to the Morning Journal. She enjoyed playing cards and reading.

She is survived by her son, John, a psychotherapist in Los Angeles, California; sister, Helen Caruso of Lorain, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Fox, who was killed in 1944 while serving in the Army in WWII; sisters, Christina Petro, Carmella Caserta, Suzie Ermi, Molly Christini, Jean Caruso and Louise Dimacchia.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 5-8 PM.

Prayers will be held at 9:20 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at St. Peter Church, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH, Fr. Chuck Henkle O.F.M Conv., Associate Pastor. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

MEREDITH ANN HEIDER

Meredith Ann Heider 33, of Brook Park passed away March 26, 2009 at Southwest General Health Center surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness.

She was born May 1, 1975 in Lorain, OH. She was a 1993 graduate of Admiral King High School and 1998 graduate of Lorain County Community College with an Associate of Arts. She was also a 2001 graduate of Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology as well as a 2005 graduate of Cleveland State University with a Master of Social Work with honors. Ms. Heider was a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Ohio.

She was employed at Regency Hospital West Campus in Middleburgh Heights as a Social Worker. She was also a MDA support group facilitator. She enjoyed listening to music and watching her favorite shows, and especially enjoyed shopping.

She is survived by her husband of 2 ½ years James Patrick Toddy; her parents Dennis and Jackie Heider of Lorain; her brother Bret Heider of Lorain, Maternal Grandmother Jean Bailey of Lorain and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her loving cat Francheska.

She was preceded in death by her Maternal Grandfather Jack Bailey in 2008, Paternal Grandfather Oscar Heider Sr. in 2007, Paternal Grandmother Jean Heider in 2002 and an Uncle Oscar Heider Jr. in 1976.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH, (440) 244-1961 on Sunday, March 29, 2009 from 4-8 PM. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 PM by Rev. Deacon Louis Maldonado.

RICHARD KEITH MCPHIE

Richard Keith (Dick, Big Coach) McPhie, 67, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 18, 2009. He was born April 27, 1941.

Dick attended Lorain St. Mary’s grade school, and graduated from Borromeo Seminary High School in 1958. He graduated from John Carroll University in 1967 and began a long teaching and coaching career (football, basketball and track) at many Cleveland area high schools. He retired from teaching in 2007 but remained as a football coach at his beloved Brunswick High School where he coached the offensive line for the last 20 years to several undefeated seasons and numerous conference and divisional championships, including a state runner-up finish in 1995. Dick will be remembered for his quick wit and his undying loyalty to his family and friends. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and golf.

He is survived by his mother, Eileen McPhie, his brothers, Gus (Mary), Joe (Maribeth), Jim (Toni Furci), Bob (Vicki), Bill (Barb) and his sister, Cathie (Herb Watling)

Also, “Uncle Dick” will be missed by nephews and nieces Christi, Laurie, Michael, Molly, Brian, Sarah, Matt, Chris, Megan, Brian, Katie and Colleen and 10 great nephews/nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm, and nephew Brett.

KAREN MARIE EDEN

Karen Marie Eden, 54, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at EMH.

Karen was born on October 21, 1954 in Amherst, a loving daughter of Eugene (deceased) and Ethel Marie Wozniak. She was raised in Lorain and resided in Elyria Twp.

She was a homemaker and a member of Nativity BVM Church in Lorain. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, traveling and playing games and chatting on the computer. She was very gifted making ceramic art and was an avid monkey collector. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were very important to her and brought her great joy.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin D. Eden, whom she married 35 years ago on October 20, 1973; three daughters, Christine (Scott) Doughty, Melissa (Herbert) Beere and Mary Eden; four grandchildren; and mother, Ethel Wozniak (nee:Smith).

She is preceded in death by her father Eugene Wozniak; sister, Julie Daughney.

RICHARD A. WATLING

Richard A. Watling, 74, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009 at Community Health Partners in Lorain.

Richard was born January 12, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio by his parents, Edward J. and Aurelia (nee: Reising) Watling.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain. He was raised and resided in Lorain. He attended Lorain High School and enlisted in the United States Army on March 16, 1953. He was a Field Communications Specialist while serving his country in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupational Medal. He returned from war to meet the love of his life, Virginia A. (nee: Medaglia), whom he married on June 29, 1957. Richard worked as a car salesman and attended Oberlin Business College before starting his career with the Lorain Fire Department. He assisted in implementing the Lorain Rescue Squad and was an active member. He served as a Fireman in Lorain befor 25 years retiring on October 25, 1985.

Richard was very athletic: ice and roller skating, basketball, football and bowled with the Firemen’s League. He boated and fished frequently. He was a scratch golfer and welcomed competition in billiards and poker.

He was an accomplished chef who was known for his exquisite beef brisket.

Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lorain; American Legion Post 30; and VFW Post 451.

Richard is survived by his cherished wife of 51 years of marriage, Virginia A. Watling; three daughters Christine A. (Pierre) Monroe of Columbus, OH, Laura A. (Tom) Jones of Fairview Park and Mariann M. Watling of Lorain; three sisters, Sally Fitzgerald, Kathy Watling, and Sandi Reed; three brothers Jim, Herb and Ed Watling; five grandchildren, Chad Kudlo, Sarah and Dominick Mase, Zachary Jones and Olivia Watling; and one great grandson, Ashton Kudlo.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 4-7 PM.

DANIEL J. MOLNAR

Cocoa, FL- Daniel J. Molnar, age 49, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 1, 2009 in Cocoa, Florida.

He was born February 25, 1960 in Lorain, OH. He is survived by his mother and step father, John and Emily Markutsa.

He is also survived by three children; Danielle and Benjamin Molnar of Manitowoc, Wisconsin and Terceria Molnar of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; brothers, David Molnar of Columbus, Ohio, Douglas Molnar of Clarksville, Tennessee and Mathew Markutsa of Lorain, Ohio; sisters, Melissa Post of Avon Lake and Amy Wygal of Huntsville, Alabama; and also numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Julius J. Molnar; his paternal grandparents, Julius and Josephine Molnar; maternal grandparents, James K. and Gertrude Jones.

Danny was a 1978 graduate of Admiral King High School and was a member of the football team and the National Honor Society. He was a nine-year veteran of the United States Air Force living in South Dakota, the Azores and Virginia. He enjoyed drawing, painting and fishing.
