HELEN J. LITKOVITZ

Lorain- Helen J. Litkovitz (nee: Karney), 94, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain.

Helen was born October 22, 1914 in Lorain, a daughter of Stephen and Helen (nee: Kun) Karnai. She lived in Lorain most of her life.

Helen was a member of St. Peter Church and Mission Group in Lorain. She graduated from Lorain High School, class of 1933A. She was employed with Western Automatic during WWII and M. O’Neil as the department head in the Arts and Needlework Department.

Helen was a well recognized China (Porcelain) painter. She helped form and belonged to many China painting organizations and China painting teachers groups, one in particular, International Porcelain Art Teachers, Inc. Her first classes were formed to teach paintings of Native American Children and her first large portrait was featured as a study in the Porcelain Art Teachers Magazine. She was a guest artist for many regional, national and international China painters conventions. She was a guest artist at Oakland University in Michigan for several years. This was all made possible by the loving encouragement and support of her husband, Ted. He would travel with her whenever he could.

She is survived by her nieces, Elaine (Vaughn) Campbell, Gerry (Jim) Watling, Kathleen (Alfred-deceased) Mitchell and Jolyn (Tom) Lines; and nephews, David (Linda) Karney and Mark (Natalie) Karney.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Litkovitz in 1978; and brothers, Nicholas in 1910, Joseph in 1943 during WWII, Stephen in 1962, Louis in 1965, Bert in 1996 and David in 2009.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 4-8 PM. Prayers will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at St. Peter Church, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, Fr. Chuck Henkle O.F.M. Conv., Associate Pastor, officiating. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
